The Tiger Meme Token aims to safeguard tigers by ensuring the preservation of their forest and grassland habitats across Asia. By safeguarding expansive and biologically diverse landscapes, we enable tigers to freely roam while also protecting numerous other endangered species residing in these areas.
Tigers have suffered a staggering decline, with an estimated 95% loss of their historical range due to human-induced destruction, degradation, and fragmentation of their habitats. Activities such as deforestation for agriculture and logging, as well as infrastructural developments like road construction, pose significant threats to tiger habitats.
Preserving these forests inhabited by tigers proves to be the most efficient method in mitigating droughts, curbing flooding, and mitigating the impacts of climate change. Protected areas have demonstrated success in curbing deforestation, with tigers serving as key agents in the establishment and effective management of such areas across Asia.
Tiger-protected zones play a vital role in conserving Asia's diverse wildlife. Take, for instance, the Manas Tiger Reserve in Assam, India, where tiger populations are on the rise. Apart from tigers, the grasslands and forests of this reserve provide a sanctuary for the world's smallest and rarest pig species – the pygmy hog – and my personal favorite, the Bengal florican. This critically endangered bird, which I extensively studied during my doctoral research, engages in elaborate mating displays involving males propelling themselves into the sky before descending while kicking their legs as if riding a bicycle. Without tigers, these and numerous other species would face heightened vulnerability.
