Longcat, also known as Nobiko (のび子, meaning “Stretchy”), was a famous Japanese cat who became an internet legend in the mid-2000s for one simple reason—she was absurdly long. Her stretched-out photo first went viral on Japanese forums like 2channel, then quickly spread to 4chan, where she was named “Longcat” and turned into memes, ASCII art, and even fake “epic battles” with her dark rival, Tacgnol (reverse Longcat). Nobiko lived a full life in Japan and was deeply loved by her owner and fans around the world. She passed away in 2020 at the age of 18, but her legacy lives on in meme history—forever long, forever legendary.
