Jomon Shiba: The Original Bloodline
Long before the modern Shiba Inu, there was the Jomon Shiba — lean, wolf-like, and deeply connected to Japan’s ancient canine heritage. Not just a pet, but a guardian and symbol of origin. The Jomon Shiba, often called the “original” or “wolf” Shiba, is not a wolf hybrid, though it closely resembles the extinct Japanese Wolf. Taller, slimmer, and with a distinct facial structure, this breed was intentionally developed to reflect Japan’s dogs from over 1,000 years ago. While most Shibas are known as “Shiba Inu” or “Shiba Ken,” the Jomon Shiba stands apart — a living link to Japan’s ancient past.
